The Beauty In Brokenness
The Beauty In Brokenness

Brokenness is the lowest place you can be. Brokenness is a state of strong emotional pain that stops someone from living a normal or healthy life. Nobody wants to be in a position of brokenness. Most of us have been there in one way or another and wouldn’t wish it on anyone else. I’ve been there more than I wish; I know it all too well. But, having spent much time there, I’ve discovered a secret. Here’s the secret, God is close to the brokenhearted; he can reach us at our darkest times. As C.S. Lewis said, “God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pain; it is His megaphone to rouse a deaf world.”
We are in the most pain, and yet God is there? Seems crazy! But that’s how God works. He makes something out of nothing. There is a real beauty that’s found in brokenness. It’s in those times that we can hear Him the most. We can slow down and grieve and process; in doing so, we discover more about ourselves and God.
Brokenness Allows You to Realize You Are Not Always In Control
Life can be going great, and we feel like we’ve got everything under control, and then boom, travesty strikes. We realize that the world does not revolve around us. We are not in full control and never will be. We must learn to become okay with this fact. Learn to control what we can control and trust that the world reciprocates.
Brokenness Allows You To Understand Pain Which Can Develop Greater Empathy
Experiencing pain properly allows you to understand the world around you. You realize that nobody is perfect, and we are all subject to pain. When we experience pain and see things in a new light, it allows us to extend grace to those who are going through similar situations. Without our experiences, we would not be able to comprehend the world around us. We all view the world through our lenses. We can become more mature and empathetic when our lenses become more complete.
Brokenness Allows For Opportunity To Self-Reflect Thus Leading To Self-Awareness
In our most difficult times, we can see our weaknesses and strengths. During these times, we can also determine how resilient we are. We reach further and deeper and find ways to be stronger and better. It takes amazing strength to pull yourself out of a dark place.
Brokenness Allows You To Look To A Higher Being For Help
In these moments, we begin to see where our strength ends and God’s begins. Not that there is a beginning or end to God’s strength because He is omnipotent/all-powerful. There is no limit or beginning or end. But we can see where our strength ends and that God has been there waiting for us the whole time.
Brokenness Allows You To Understand Who Matters And What Matters
We find out who is there for us in our most difficult moments. Anyone can be there for your good times, but a true friend will be there in the hardest moments. Those who make time for you when they stand nothing to gain are the people who matter most.
Also, during this time, you begin to prioritize how you need to spend your time. This is where you find out what matters. You begin to see how you’ve miscalculated your time and energy and can begin to refocus on what matters.
Brokenness Allows You To Understand The Deeper Meaning Of Every Experience
Once you experience strength and grow from the brokenness, you can see the world in a new light. You realize that your pain was not just for you. You now have valuable knowledge, experience, and realization to be able to help others. You realize that it’s now your time to be strong for others. This is called compassion, when you empathize, see a need and respond.
Tough times will come; that’s part of life, but when they do, take solace in knowing the most beautiful things come out of the ugliest circumstances. Your greatest growth opportunities come at these times. Learn to embrace it and come out stronger. They are all part of allowing you to experience brokenness and meet God in a new way you have never experienced. Learn to discover the beauty in brokenness.
This is growth; this is life. This is the love of God.
